According to St. Matthew, Jesus gave Christians a mandate to visit the imprisoned, a responsibility which we as Catholics recognize as the Sixth Act of Corporal Mercy.
Our priests visit the jail when requested and as their schedules permit, but there is much we as parishioners can do to demonstrate compassion and, with God’s help, to alleviate misfortune.
Teach the rosary as a prayer and offer regular rosary services.
Bring communion regularly to individual Catholic inmates. This is similar to the ministry of serving the sick at home or in the hospital.
Hold Communion Services.
Offer bible study classes and RCIA referrals.
Provide moral and spiritual support for the families of jailed Catholics during and after incarceration.
If you are a Eucharistic Minister, Communion Minister, Catechist, or simply a parishioner moved to reach out to the imprisoned, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
We need your compassion, your energy, your talent, and your inspiration.
