As Catholics, we fully participate in the Mass when we receive Holy Communion. We are encouraged to receive Communion devotedly and frequently.
Children, who are of the age of reason (7 and older), are encouraged to receive Holy Communion after catechesis on the Sacrament with their parents and with the community. The child must be enrolled in the parish religious education program at least one year prior to beginning preparation for this sacrament and continue to attend classes while preparing for the sacrament.
Parent(s)/guardian of the child must participate in classes provided for parents and assist in the preparation of their child. This class is provided while the child is taking a class to prepare for the sacrament.
The child must be catechized and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to receiving catechesis for First Holy Communion. A copy of the child’s baptismal certificate must be presented to the pastor (or his delegate) prior to reception of First Holy Communion. Copies of the complete guidelines may be obtained from the Chancery.
